Two weeks at camp and things are going well... It's been relatively dry, cool, the tree climbing has been good, and there is plenty of pollinator action. On Wednesday morning I took some time off from pollinator observations to climb a tree called Tutup kabali by the locals (Diospyros pseudomalabarica), which is a member of the ebony family and closely related to persimmons. I did the climb with a fellow Rutgers PhD student who is conducting research here, Will Aguado, and his assistant, Hannah. Will studies Orangutan nutrition and metabolics. While the orangutans do enjoy Tutup kabali fruit, our objective was actually a large strangler fig that had snaked its way up (or maybe down?) the trunk of the Tutup kabali and was fruiting heavily.
